English text
1. What signs will carry God today to our accustomed eyes,
what light will penetrate the depths of knowledge crystallized,
what voice revive a living hope made faint by its reprise?
2. When Jesus found the temple full of ritual congealed,
he braided cords and made a whip -- his passion would not yield
to practices that covered up as much as they revealed.
3. What cords will Jesus find today to braid for our rebuff,
what tables will be overturned, what sacrificial doves
released, that flying free might point the path to our first love?
