David Humphreys, 1790
Then doubling clouds the wintry skies deform,
And, wrapped in vapor, comes the roaring storm;
With snows surcharged, from tops of mountains sails,
Loads leafless trees, and fills the whitened vales.

Daniel Belknap, 1800
Now clouds the wintry skies deform,
In sullen vengeance roars the storm;
The snow from which yon mountain falls
Loads leafless trees, and fills the vales.
