Ich wollt, daß ich daheime wär
und aller Welte Trost entbehr'.

Ich mein' daheim im Himmelreich,
da ich Gott schaue ewiglich.

Wohlauf, mein Seel, und richt dich dar,
dort wartet dein der Engel Schar!

Denn alle Welt ist dir zu klein,
du kommest denn erst wieder heim.

Daheim ist Leben ohne Tod,
und ganze Freude ohne Not.

Da sind doch tausend Jahr als heut,
und nichts, was dich verdrieß, noch reut.

Wohlauf, mein Herz und all mein Mut,
und such das Gut ob allem Gut!

Du hast doch hie kein Bleiben nicht,
ob's morgen oder heut geschicht.

Da es denn anders nicht mag sein,
so fleuch der Welt viel falschen Schein,

Ade, Welt! Gott gesegne dich.
gen Himmelreich nun fahre ich.

Oh, how I wish I were at home,
and all Earth’s comforts I’d forgo.

I mean, at home in Heav’n’s sphere,
with God in view forever there.

Take heart, my soul, and turn that way,
for hosts of angels there await.

For all the world would seem so small,
if it were viewed from heaven’s hall.

At home is life, life without death,
with naught but joy in ev’ry breath.

And there a thousand years are one,
where no regret, no grief can come.

My soul, with courage now take heart
and seek in all the better part.

You have here no abiding place
in this or any future days.

So nothing under Heav’n will do,
but flee this world’s false, glitt’ring hue.

Adieu, world, go with God alone,
I’m trav’ling to my heav’nly home.
