Edition notes: Corrected versions of Sanctus uploaded 2011-07-29, Agnus dei II 2013-04-02 and Kyrie 2013-04-03. The source for the Agnus dei II states it to be “A5”. The bass part is omitted, but “bassus in sub diapason” is indicated against the second alto part. There are “segno” indications in that part on the A starting in bar 4 and the minim A in bar 33. The bass part has been reconstructed on this basis.

General Information

Title: Missa tertii toni
Composer: Rodrigo de Ceballos

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: SATB, or SAAT or SAATB
Genre: SacredMass

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

    Manuscript 1717 in E-Zac C-3 Ms 8 (Zaragossa), no. 3
Description: A four part mass, edited from what is probably an 18th Century manuscript copy of the work. There is no Benedictus, either because there never was one, or, more likely, because by the Baroque period in Spain and Latin America the Benedictus was usually sung to a plain setting, so the original Benedictus may have been omitted. The Kyrie is suitable for SATB voices. The remainder of the work, other than the Agnus dei II, is more suited for SAAT. In the 5 part Agnus dei II the basses sing an octave below the second alto part.
