Clever idea to point to the mirror site at the Wayback Machine! —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 11:35, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. Max has been the first at this, before me. Hundred of broken links aren't broken anymore BUT: 1. Should we download the files then upload them on CPDL (remember that, for Christofer R. Baker, only .GIF were shown - we have to insert gifs into blank pages, then generate PDFs - heavy work). 2. Regarding simoneolivieri.altervista.org, the site also didn't disappear but perhaps its owner withdrew files for some reason. Who are we to make those files reappear without his consent? ;-) Claude (talk) 11:52, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
1. As long as we have the Wayback Machine, I don't think this will be necessary. 2. Well, considering that Simone hasn't made any specific request to have his works withdrawn from CPDL, I think that yes, we are in our right to make every effort in order to keep his works available to the public. :^) —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:36, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Bad news concerning freesheetmusic: even though the site has been mirrored, most of the files have not. :(   Claude Goudimel is an exception (maybe waiting for another Claude to rescue him, lol). —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 15:14, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

I think Claude rescued also other composers of this site about 15 minutes ago: most of the files can be reached, isn't it? ;-) See Johann Walter's Ein feste Burg. Claude (talk) 15:22, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Hmmm did you try to click on the pdf link? —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 15:36, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Ah, deception. I proceed over other sites anyway. Claude (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
Good news: some specific files can be recovered at archive.org using another wayback date. See Ein feste Burg (Johann Walter) ;-) Claude (talk) 11:33, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey, great find! :)) —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:21, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

 Help

Claude, I fixed a botched RepaceText invocation, replacing {{website|xmassongbook.net}} with {{website|xmassongbook}}. I'm mentioning this now, in case you didn't catch the mistake.

O, yes Chuck, I saw yesterday that my change didn't work. And saw your correction during my rehearsal of Haydn. Didn't took time to thank you. Now, it's done! ;-) Claude (talk) 16:12, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Recovering broken links

This seems exceptionally clever, Claude!
Jamesgibb (talk) 22:44, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, James. It's time to think to donate something to archive.org. And I'm not against funding also my past work a little in some way. ;-) Claude (talk) 07:05, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

I wrote to Manfred Hößl, Frédéric Debons (immediate answer) and Adrian Cuello (no answer). I'm tired. Who'll write to Philip Legge, speaking of his bunch of broken links, like here? Claude (talk) 11:34, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

IMSLP versus the Wayback Machine

Hi Claude! As you probably know, the contents of the WIMA website were merged into IMSLP a couple of years ago. Links that point to the old website are not really broken, unless the edition was not imported into IMSLP for some reason. Taking Morirò, cor mio (Mogens Pedersøn) as an example, the files could be easily located at imslp:Madrigali a cinque voci, Libro 1 (Pedersøn, Mogens). Linking to the old WIMA website at the Wayback Machine is a valid alternative, but linking to IMSLP guarantees that the user will download the most up-to-date version of that file. It's up to you. Regards, —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 12:41, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

How could a user know that, searching 'Moriro, etc', then seeing on the list that such title can't be read on the page shown after our link, it has to click elsewhere, on other tabs, words, etc. Which number of clicks do you think is a maximum to say it's not a broken link. Why didn't you (or any other admin) correct these 'not-broken-but-marked-as-broken' links, since years? Hmm? Claude (talk) 13:03, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Hey Claude, take it easy. I'm not saying that what you did is wrong. I totally agree that after WIMA's merger into IMSLP it's now harder to find the works. But if one is going to fix things, what is the best alternative? That's what I'd like to discuss. I have myself corrected several WIMA links to point to the proper IMSLP page. Depending on the copyright license used on WIMA, copying their files locally would be yet another alternative. —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 14:17, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I just meant that no, "the files could" NOT "be easily located at"... Just reverted my edit to show everybody how easy it was. What is the link to the 'partbook format'? Claude (talk) 15:06, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Retired edition numbers

Hi Claude,

I was looking at you user contributions page hoping to figure out how you did the cleanup on Befiehl du deine Wege (Michael Praetorius). Is this something I can learn to take care of myself, or should I in the future just leave you a note? Richard Mix (talk) 05:09, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Richard, I just deleted one of the two editions (leading to the same file). Its CPDL number becomes free and won't be recycled, except if a duplicated CPDL number (two different editions under only one CPDL number) appears during the same period. Thanks for your help offering. Claude (talk) 13:18, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Work title messed up

hallo mr claude! in yesterdays contrib of handel chandos anthem I had a copy/paste issue in the title of the work, (added part of the name of another piece). found no way to edit the wrong title away. on the other hand, on the works page I managed to insert a link to a page that apparently does not exist, although the corresponding files are downloadable. please help!

thx in advance

t.p.

Hi, Tulipo. Thanks for your contributions to CPDL. I corrected the title. Also, to sign your textual interventions like here, you can type four tildes in a row : Claude (talk) 07:53, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
hello claude, thanks for cleaning up! and here are 4 tildes in a row Tulipo Petressian 14:56, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
further question: I seem to have a double identity on CPDL due to upper/lower case issues, caused by my habitual neglect of the upper case, and CPDLs apparent routine of always heaving initial characters into the upper case. so on the one hand I sign in as Tulipo petressian, but am linked to an empty user page; my editions, on the other hand are linked to user page Tulipo Petressian which carries info and link to edition-list. could you kindly unite these two tulipos?! Tulipo Petressian 15:09, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
I searched within the upper right search window for "Tulipo petressian" but found no page. Claude (talk) 08:18, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
your colleague carlos fixed this problem yesterday, I assumed at your request..Tulipo Petressian 08:32, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi Claude, all he wanted was to have his user page and username connected somehow. I've done that using redirects, as usual. Now if someone clicks on User:Tulipo petressian, s/he is redirected to his user page. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 14:54, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Laus tibi Christe (Johannes Roullet)

Claude. thanks for sorting that. when I was adding the Latin, it mysteriously disappeared when I saved the page! So I resorted to "poem" as a temporary fix. Jamesgibb (talk) 07:56, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, James. I found that was produced by the equal sign at #7b. I replaced it by a ':', not equivalent in the meaning, anyway. Claude (talk) 08:15, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Well spotted. I certainly didn't notice it, and wouldn't have realised its significance if I had!Jamesgibb (talk) 09:02, 15 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello James and Claude! There are two ways to circumvent this problem:
  1. Use {{=}} instead of = in the text;
  2. Add the "text=" named parameter to Text template: {{Text|Latin|text=

Flags

Hi Claude, thanks for adding a flag for Venetian; I've provided one for Aymara, also. I just couldn't understand why you decided to equate Provençal and Occitan to Catalan in the {{Flag}} template. Even though they are closely related, the idea behind that template is to provide the flag of the political entity under which that language is found, in those cases where the language never reached enough independence to bear a flag of its own. Following this logic, both Provençal and Occitan can be considered "French" (i.e., from France) languages. Best, —Carlos (talk) 01:43, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. We use those flags for languages, not for 'political entities'. Basque is the same language on both sides of the border between France and Spain. It has a flag we use. Catalan/Occitan/Provençal are quite the same language on both sides of the same border but with three different names. Claude (talk) 08:16, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle (Nicolas Saboly)

Hi Claude, thanks for performing the merger of those editions, as discussed long ago. I just think that it could have been done by moving one of the merged pages (probably Un flambeau, Jeanette Isabella) into the new title (as I have inadvertently done to the talk page), instead of creating a new page from scratch. Would you mind if I do that? None of your recent edits to the page will be lost. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 17:10, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

No problem, Carlos. In fact I cut and pasted all content from the one to the other before merging all others there. (I forgot the 'moving-a-page' process. ;-) Claude (talk) 17:16, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
That's fine! Don't worry about the misspellings, I'll keep your title as is. ;) —Carlos (talk) 17:41, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
I've not moved Elijah to Elias (Elijah) either. Messiah's title didn't change. Where is the 'move a page' button? BTW, could you have a look, on my DPL queries page at the list numbered 16: NewWork should have 0 occurrences and line 7, IsNew list many more. I can't figure out what the hell is this. Claude (talk) 17:49, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi, the Move option is hidden between the "Watch page" star and the "Search" box, along with the Delete option. Is it not appearing to you anymore?
I had a look at your User:Claude T/bac-a-sable/IsNew query, and its results seem to be consistent with the results given by the "what links here" function: 5036 results. The same for template New Work: 865 results. What is happening is that the wiki stills keeps an outdated version of the page in its cache. If you pick one of the pages at the NewWork list, open it for edit and save it without making any changes, you'll notice that it disappears from the DPL list. It's exactly the same than "purging" the cache by adding ?action=purge at the end any wiki page's web address. But please don't try to do it by hand on all those pages. If I'm not mistaken, there are ways to clear the whole cache with one single command.
Thanks for searching but the only star I see (upper right) is to add/remove the page to/from my watch list. Perhaps am I not a SysOp?
Purge the cache: that's clear, Carlos, regarding the obsolete NewWork list. But what is the relation between IsNew and WhatLinksHere? Anyway, thanks for cleaning my sandbox :-)) Claude (talk) 20:03, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Change "St. John Passion" page to "Markus-Passion BWV 247

Hi Claude, je voudrais bien changer "St. John Passion" to "Markus-Passion BWV 247, mais je ne sais pas comment faire, pourriez vous m'aider? (my French is poor) excuse me. I would like to add more choruses and chorals to this work, I already uploaded the final Chorus (Bei deinem Grab und Leichenstein) and will upload more chorales in the next days. However I would prefer if the work ist listed under "Markus-Passion" rather then St. Mark Passion. So I Uploaded the final chorus under "Markus-Passion BWV 247". Unfortunately I am now stuck with two pages and do not know how to change that. I would appreciate your help with this ! Thanks in advance. Best regards. Jean (I am not French, but from Holland) Jean 17:40, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Jean. Many thanks for your contributions to CPDL! I merged the first movement above the 37th on the 'Markus' page and redirected the 'St Mark' one there. Regards. Claude (talk) 17:48, 18 February 2016 (UTC) (You may sign your text õn talk pages typing four tildes in a row.

Jean de Castro

Bonjour Claude, est-ce tu pourrais réorganiser la page de Jean de Castro? Soit en colonnes, soit par genre sacré/profane? Je ne m'en sors pas en Wiki. Merci d'avance. Jkelecom (talk) 14:52, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

I've applied {{#SortWorks:}}, that generates automatically a number of columns proportional with the number of works to list and that will be automatically updated without any manual intervention, thanks Max! Claude (talk) 17:43, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Blank user pages

Hi Claude, I saw that you've just created a blank user page for User:Bethy629. I've stumbled upon a couple of other such pages recently and am curious: would you mind to explain your rationale for doing so? Thanks —Carlos (talk) 06:08, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Carlos. I don't even know how to create a user page. It should be a dysfunction when answering to the form that authorize creating accounts on demand. Claude (talk) 06:11, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
That's interesting! I'll check with Max if this behaviour can be changed somehow. Thanks :) —Carlos (talk) 13:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
By default, the ConfirmAccount extension sends a welcome message to the new user through his/her talk page. This function can be disabled by setting $wgAutoWelcomeNewUsers = false; in LocalSettings.php. See here for details. An additional tweak to the code may be required, though. Max a.k.a. Choralia (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Max. When I get home I'll have a look at this tweak. But I'm not sure this bug is related to the standard Welcome message; the user page and the user talk page are independent entities, AFAIK. —Carlos (talk) 20:26, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Haydn

Hi Claude,

I like the formatting of Aus des Ramlers Lyrischer Blumenlese on Joseph Haydn: thanks!

I posted my reservations about one merge at Talk:The Creation (Joseph Haydn), please let me know what you think. Cheers, Richard Mix (talk) 23:39, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Richard, I see no objection for you to revert that edit. Regards. Claude (talk) 06:23, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

MusicXML Icon

Hi Claude, I see you changed all the MusicXML to {{XML}} under the composer Samuel Babcock. I will make a point of changing this in new works. This really should be changed in the Add Work Page. Because now, when I upload an mxl file into the "Music Notation File" box on that form, it auto-populates the next field as "MusicXML" -- XML is not an option in the dropdown for the "Music notation format" field. There are other changes I would recommend for this form, but maybe they should wait. Thanks for all you do! — Barry Johnston (talk) 15:02, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Barry, you're right. That should be changed within the AddWork process, but I'm not sure how to do that without any damage. Some other admin would do that for us. In the meanwhile, feel free to generate 'MusicXML' strings that I would convert easily into {{XML}} strings with the Special:ReplaceText page from time to time. Claude (talk) 15:27, 26 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi Claude, I see you trying various ways to explain the mxl icon in edition notes, in pages like this. If I may make a suggestion, it would be easier if you were to add text to the {{Legend}}, rather than change each one of these pages manually. My suggestion is at User:Bcjohnston523/Suggested Legend. Hope this helps. — Barry Johnston (talk) 15:48, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Barry. I agree with your new Legend template, particularly regarding lower case better than upper case and MXL explained as XML zipped file. Only two little issues: the green icon is used for XML files, MXL files and ZIP files containing XML files. Many users, even expert ones, have problems when importing directly MXL files in their respective notation softwares. Regarding the blue C icon, it is used only for .Capx files, not for .Cap files, because there is another one, used before, with .Cap file. Claude (talk) 16:11, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi, Claude. Most of what you say belongs in an explanation section to the Legend template; I have added one. Of course, I am not permitted to change the code behind the Legend template, I can only suggest. Maybe your comments belong on the page Help:Format choice, or a page explaining the various music notation software options? — Barry Johnston (talk) 18:34, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
After some more thought, your report is a concern. If as you say "many users have problems" reading MXL files, then should I continue making and uploading them? Is it just my MXL files that are the problem? (I could perhaps find a better MXL creator.) Would another format work better? Thanks for all you do! — Barry Johnston (talk) 14:50, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Oh no, Barry, keep up the good work. As stated here, MusicXML is the best music interchange format. So, we want more people to add XML files. But uncompressed XML takes more place than zipped one. So we ask you upload MXL (zipped XML) files. If you drag and drop an MXL file just on a Finale 2014.5 window, you get the whole score instantly. BUT it's not yet the case of many other or older notation softwares. So we just have to warn the user that, if the zipped file doesn't open in their respective notation software, they could unzip it first, then open the resulting MusicXML file instead. That's what I warned everybody on each edition where there is an XML file, including yours. Claude (talk) 15:09, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi Claude, to bring back a part of this, I made a two-line version of the template; didn't change any words, just replaced " = " with "–". It's at this page. Hope this helps. — Barry Johnston (talk) 01:56, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Barry, I applied your changes. Claude (talk) 07:16, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
Can we please discuss this a bit more before we make a final decision? I liked very much Barry's previous suggestions, but in this case I think that the equal sign, surrounded by spaces, is visually cleaner and clearer in meaning. —Carlos (talk) 12:52, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
I find that the icon and its meaning are closer so, thus more significant. For everybody, a visual comparison is just one click away, three lines above. Claude (talk) 13:46, 27 September 2016 (UTC)
I created a new legend, at this page. Actually all I am trying to do is get the legend down to a size that doesn't take up too much space on a work page. Discovered that the Legend.gif doesn't actually link to anything, so I added a link to the template page. (But maybe the explanations on the template page should be somewhere else, maybe a page of its own? That way, explanations would be available without getting in the way on the work page.) — Barry Johnston (talk) 17:49, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, Barry, I applied your changes. Claude (talk) 20:33, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Template for Capella

Hi Claude,

I saw that you changed one of my newly created editions: (Text replace - ".capx}} Capella]" to ".capx}} Logo_capella-software_kurz_2011_16x16.png]") which results in showing the icon of Capella instead of the text. I suggest that this should be done automatically by the form for creating a new edition. I will have a look at the other editions I entered and change them as well.

Deleting spam

Hi Claude,

Thanks for removing all the spam pages created by user Rs127917. Next time you may want to use the tool Special:NukeDPL to delete all pages by a user at once, instead of deleting one by one. Regards, —Carlos (talk) 10:33, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Useful indeed. Thanks, Carlos. Claude (talk) 11:17, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
I've been unable to use it tonight during an emergency. :-( Claude (talk) 19:20, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi Claude, spam is not such an emergency, you could have waited a bit. I'm sorry to know that you spent almost a whole hour deleting those pages. The syntax of NukeDPL is in fact quite straightforward: you just create a query as you would within DPL. In this case, remove all lines except createdby = User and replace User with the spammer's username. —Carlos (talk) 23:48, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Please, Carlos, if you know how to do… do it yourself ;-) Claude (talk) 17:32, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
That's what I was going to do... but you bet me to it both times. —Carlos (talk) 17:00, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Or better, explain me what isn't working on that page.
First of all, your query wouldn't show anything simply because there was nothing left to delete, as you had already removed all his pages long before you created the query. Secondly, there was a syntax error (the User: prefix isn't necessary). I've undeleted 3 pages so that you can see that they now appear in your query . You may want to delete them again using NukeDPL with the command createdby = Rs127917. —Carlos (talk) 17:00, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Thank you very much, Carlos. That worked well with your help. Claude (talk) 18:58, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Coppini edition (1607)

Hi Claude,

Thanks for all the link repairs! I've suggested merging Felle amaro / Cruda Amarilli (Claudio Monteverdi) as done at Ecco piegando (Claudio Monteverdi) with Te Jesu Christe. If you have a better idea though I'd love to continue the discussion there. Richard Mix (talk) 01:12, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Composer page

Hi Claude. Knowing that you are so fond of standardization, I couldn't understand this edit of yours. Please avoid using <br> for line breaks: adding a new line is the custom at CPDL, as you know so well. Also, the standard way of linking to the related Wikipedia article is by using the {{WikipediaLink}} template, not by adding an external link as was done here. Sorry if I sound picky, but keeping a standard layout makes automated maintenance much easier, and will also help if we decide to automate composer pages even more in the future. (See Template:Bio/composer for one attempt at it.) —Carlos (talk) 16:53, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, Carlos, without the <br> tags, all appears (under Firefox) on the same line. Wim typed each WP link with an 'https' and 'nl' prefix, and within double curly brackets, resulting with all-red link. So you should have corrected all that the right way, before I could make mistakes. Just compare 'before' and 'after' my edits. Thanks. Regarding automatization, why wasn't the Wikipedia link template on any of the composer pages created by Wim? Claude (talk) 17:07, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
That's exactly what I did to another composer page created by Wim, I corrected it the standard way, by adding new lines: (see here) I'm sure there's nothing new to you in my edit. As for your other question, Wim must be removing/changing the WikipediaLink himself. Thanks, —Carlos (talk) 19:42, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

Media v filepath

Claude, could you explain the significance of this, since I don't understand it! Shouldn't this be done automatically by the add works page, and the same with {{Capx}}? Jamesgibb (talk) 13:18, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes, James, you're right. I hope it's going to be done. The whole discussion is here. Enjoy! ;-) Claude (talk) 13:24, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back so promptly, Claude. I now understand the purpose, if not the fine detail! I'll endeavour to remember to do it on my editions, to save you the trouble, (as I'm also trying to remember with {{Capx}}) Jamesgibb (talk) 13:45, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Doing so, you'll see your uploaded files disappear from the (in)famous 'orphan files' list and see, on each 'File:' page, where the file is used. Isn't that magic? Claude (talk) 13:53, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
As you say, it does appear to be magical, Claude! I've gone through all my files that appear on that page and made the changes. Somewhat puzzled as to how they got there, but the did disappear.

One other thing, is it not strange that an Italian, a Brazilian and a Frenchman should converse with each other in English, and the native English speaker doesn't understand most of what they are talking about!Jamesgibb (talk) 15:20, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Since I can't read the forum discussion: I ask that you please change the Legend at the same time. Perhaps along these lines. Thanks! — Barry Johnston (talk) 14:21, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
That seems a good suggestion, Barry.Jamesgibb (talk) 15:22, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't know where to put all the explanations lines in the template. About the two first lines, I gave it a try. Claude (talk) 16:38, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Looks much better! You could the Explanation section between <noinclude> and </noinclude> at the bottom; that way it doesn't appear in the Legend on a work page, but the Legend on a work page has a link to Template:Legend so the user can reach explanation of what the Legend means. — Barry Johnston (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Added your infos. Thanks, Barry. Claude (talk) 18:32, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Modifying a title

Dear Claude, because of reasons of Google availability, would it be possible modifying the title of this page that I have created Ave Maria di S. Lorenzo Bellizzi (Traditional) into "Ave Maria di San Lorenzo Bellizzi"? Thanks in advance, Fraspi (talk) 17:32, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Francesco. Thank you for your contributions to CPDL. Do you mean we shouldn't keep the composer as 'Traditional'? Claude (talk) 18:12, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
No, the piece is traditional. I just would like better the title Ave Maria di San Lorenzo Bellizzi instead of Ave Maria di S. Lorenzo Bellizzi. Thanks a lot! Fraspi (talk) 08:09, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Psalms

Claude

Might I suggest a new category for psalms? Many psalms are used as the basis for hymns, but others have a quite distinctive style. They are not motets either.

Many thanks

Sorry, Jonathan, I'm not knowing much about psalms and related categories. Would you contact another admin or wait for one of them to answer here? Regards, Claude (talk) 11:55, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Finale 2008

Hi Claude! It looks like you've had a lot of fun recently with ReplaceText when adding the {{mus}} icon to Finale 2008 editions! ^_^

I'm glad that you've already spotted the problem and corrected most of the cases. I've caught a few that were left uncorrected (~10), basically filenames that ended in an uppercase letter or a character. When running batch replaces, it's always a good idea to select just two or three pages at first, check the results, and then run the query on the remaining pages. ;) Best, —Carlos (talk) 23:55, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, Carlos. Thanks a lot. --Claude (talk) 06:31, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
No problem! The new icons look great! —Carlos (talk) 11:28, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Claude! Thanks for creating these new categories. To simplify things for you, I've adapted {{CatTxt}} for this kind of category. Replacing you text with CatTxt wasn't that easy, hehe. You showed a lot of imagination in using 9 different phrases inside the categories. ;-) Regards, —Carlos (talk) 02:16, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Carlos. So why don't you create automatically all the categories from 1861 to 2016 (with the same content) in one snap? --Claude (talk) 06:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
I would gladly do that, but to create pages I need a (ro)bot, and my brave DotNetWikiBot stopped working a few years ago. Sorry... —Carlos (talk) 15:27, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok, Carlos, too bad. –– Claude (talk) 15:50, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Claude, please *wait*!! Your query is wrong... please check your email inbox. Thanks, —Carlos (talk) 04:58, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Ok, I'll wait. Sorry.. Claude (talk) 05:12, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Hi Claude, thanks for your message (I do not speak French, but Google helps). What happend to the Dachsteinlied? It is still not visible for outsiders Manuela (talk) 16:29, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Manuela. I'm glad to hear from you, because the way you did isn't exactly the right one. You will find all the explanations in German: Go to Main Page, at bottom left, you will find 'Other languages'. Click on 'Deutsch'. Your page didn't disappear, I renamed it with the composer Dachsteinlied (Ludwig Carl Seydler), as all others. Now that the page exists, just use once the AddWork form mentioned in the instructions, it's the only way to get the unique CPDL number and other informations as score info, usw. About the composer page, you created it from scratch. Now it lacks all the other info as Nationality, Era, etc. Again you'll find where and what to cut and paste on your composer page in the instructions mentioned below. Last, but not least, as I created an account under your Manuela nickname (not Manuela1, as you asked), please enter there what you want, taking in mind what other did generally on their user pages, mainly an email address without which I was unable to explain you all that. If you fear publishing your email address, just know that using  At sign.png  instead of '@' prevents from automatic mail robbery. Finally, sign your message here typing four tildes in a row. ;-) Claude (talk) 16:49, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Sorry for the mistakes I made (I think this is because I am used to commons.wikimedia), I just have followed the instructions now for AddWork (hopefully successful). I am still a little bit confused about my username, I would really prefer if my username were "Manuela" and not "Manuela1" (I know this maybe bold but I have this username at wikipedia too). Didn't I type four tildes? Sry for that Manuela (talk) 19:20, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Done. Claude (talk) 19:27, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

The man is blest (William Cobbold)

Claude (talk) 13:55, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Combining files

Hi Claude,

I notice you've been combining individually posted parts into single files: it's only a minor inconvenience for instrumentalists who only want to print their own part, assuming they can figure out the appropriate page number range and instruct the printer accordingly. However, I think zipping audio files as here is a much worse idea: isn't it hard to imagine any user wanting to listen to all of the practice files one after the other? Richard Mix (talk) 06:06, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Those files aren't combined the way you suppose it: they are just grouped in a zip file. After one click to unzip, each individual file appears separated, individualized, untouched, with same date as before, etc. Ah, if I'd speak English better! ;-) Claude (talk) 06:38, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
I misunderstood (moi aussi je voudrais mieux parler ta langue :-) but I still can't quite see how it works: I have a MacBook, and a single click seems to start a download, but I don't know where to find it on my hard drive and it's missing from the downloads folder… Richard Mix (talk) 06:51, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Ah, I see. If your operating system doesn't unzip it automatically, you have to get an "unzipper". See "unzip Mac" with Google or any other search engine. Claude (talk) 06:56, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Claude, I completely agree with Richard on this. Opening a zip file is not so straightforward as it may seem. If an editor decided to upload his/her files separately, we must respect their will or, at least, ask them beforehand if they mind the changes. Hélène Morleghem's audio files, specifically, are training aids and should not be zipped together, but made available through the {{TrainingAids}} template. Cordialement, —Carlos (talk) 16:27, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
There are thousands of zipped files on the site. Most of them are tagged with the zipped mention. The ZIP icon is on every work page with a link to Help:How do I download files? and 7ZIP is on top of ChoralWiki:Downloadable tools. Now that you've restored more than five files of the same kind in one "edition", you'd add a sixth, a seventh parameter at least in the "sound" category of the {{#Edition: parser function (or ask Max to do it) - test pages are listed here. BTW, are your "training aids" taking part in editions without CPDL number or files outside any edition? It's annoying in a database maintenance perspective. Claude (talk) 07:40, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks

for fixing up my first posting (Her Triumph (Anonymous))--Geremia (talk) 15:15, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

You're welcome, Alan. Thank you for your contributions to CPDL. If you wish to leave some contact info on your editor's page, don't be afraid about robots grabbing your email: instead of @, type {{@}} inbetween your name and your provider's name. Claude (talk) 16:06, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Tomaso Cecchino

Bonjour Claude

Regards, Jkelecom (talk) 13:16, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Holy and immortal Father (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky)

Hi Claude, I notice you kept this page, though I had marked it for deletion. CPDL No. 27599 now appears on this page and also on Cherubic Hymn No. 3 (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky). I had merged the two pages, because the music is the same, the words different paraphrases of the original Church Slavonic text. I'm not sure why Editionbot made changes. Should I have done something different? Best wishes, — Barry Johnston (talk) 14:16, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi Barry, your request to delete that page has been visible only during one hour and a half on November, the 3rd. So I didn't notice it at that time. Now it's deleted. ;-) Claude (talk) 16:51, 28 November 2016 (UTC)
