Composer: Matthew J. Pool
Lyricist:

Number of voices: 1v   Voicing: Unison
Genre: SacredAnthem

Language: English

Description: This is a flexible anthem that may be performed by any choral ensemble and is particularly appropriate for Thanksgiving. Ensembles are encouraged to split this up into parts for further contrast and variety at the discretion of the conductor. One suggestion is for one part to sing the first stanza, a second part to sing the second stanza, and for both parts to sing the final stanza. Another suggestion is for the second stanza to be split between two parts, while the first and third stanzas are sung by all. Of course, the full anthem may be performed as written with the entire ensemble singing all stanzas.

No permission is needed to perform or distribute this music so long as full credit is given to the arranger.

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!

We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
