General Information

Title: Dixit Dominus in D (1742)
Composer: Francesco Durante
Lyricist: Unknown
Number of voices: 8vv   Voicing: SATB.SATB, and SAB (soli)
Genre: SacredVespers

Language: Latin
Instruments: 2 corni, 2 oboes, violin 1 and 2, viola, basso continuo

First published: 1742
Description: This is the first of the two 8-part settings of the Dixit Dominus by Durante. The 2 brass parts, in the manuscript labelled Trombe / Trombe da caccia / Corni, should probably be performed by (baroque) horns. Violetta is in this case most probably to be understood as viola. See the preface to the score for more elaborate notes on instrumentation.
