Original text and translations

German.png German text

1. Es ist ein Schnee gefallen
und ist doch noch nicht Zeit,
ich kann nicht weiter wallen,
der Weg ist mir verschneit.

2. Mein Haus hat keinen Giebel,
es ist mir worden alt,
zerbrochen sind mir die Riegel,
mein Stüblein ist mir kalt.

3. Ach Lieb, lass dich erbarmen,
dass ich so elend bin,
und schließ mich in deine Arme,
so fährt der Winter hin.

English.png English text

Already snow has fallen,
Though winter is not come;
No farther can I travel,
The way that leads me home.

Alas! my home is roofless,
Decayed and quite grown old,
Nor door nor window remaining,
Its chambers dark and cold.

Ah! love, on me take pity,
For I am full of woe;
Enfold me within thine arms, love,
And bid chill winter go.
