English translation
A sound of bells at evening
Is borne upon the gale;
A chant of wondrous voices
Saint Mary, thee we hail!
From star to star a sparkle,
From leaf to leaf a breath,
A whisper and a glimmer,
That mark an angel's path.
The silent treetops hearken,
As dreamlike comes the gale.
One only bends, repeating,
Saint Mary, thee we hail.
- Translation by John Troutbeck
