Life
Born: 11 February 1986
Biography
Pianist and composer, Bruno Vlahek, was born in 1986 in Zagreb (Croatia). He graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Music as one of the youngest piano students ever, and subsequently won international scholarships to study in Lausanne, Cologne and Madrid. At the Hochschule fuer Musik in Cologne he studied composition and improvisation with T.Claus and J.Fritsch.
He performs as a piano soloist throughout Europe, in Asia, Africa, South America, Russia and Israel, at leading international music festivals and venues. He won first prizes at the A.Scriabin Piano Competition (Paris, 2010) and R.Vines Piano Competition (Lleida, 2008), was laureate of the 6th China Shanghai International Piano Competition in 2012 and Concours international de piano de Lyon (France) in 2016 where he won 3rd prize and Audience prize. He is also winner of Yamaha Award in Madrid, Pnina Salzman Memorial Award in Israel, Artists on Globe Award 2014 and received an Honorary Diploma from the hands of Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain.
Bruno Vlahek has composed in many genres (orchestral, chamber, solo, choral and vocal music) with special emphasis on chamber and sacred music. His music has been performed on five continents in cities such as New York, Chicago, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Cambridge, Lisbon, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Moscow, St. Petersburg, or Seoul, and at the ISCM’s World New Music Days 2010 in Sydney (Australia). In 2012 he won the first prize at the XXXIII International Competition for Organ Works "Cristobal Halffter" in Spain. His works have been published in United Kingdom and USA.
