Swedish text Den första gång jag såg dig, det var en sommardag, |
{{Translation|English The first time that I saw you The first time that I saw you, it was a summer’s day; The morning sunshine – oh, so bright and clear And all the meadows’ blossoms, in marvellous display Were bowing, bending, swaying, far and near A balmy breeze, down on the strand, sighed softly o’er the sand where A wavelet brushed a tiny snail, so lovingly and warm there, The first time that I saw you, it was a summer’s day, The first time that I dared to take your hand, dear.
Was brilliant as the swan in all her pride. Then from the verdant woodland, came forth a joyous cry, A song of celebration, far and wide. There came a song from Heav’n so sweet – and lovely, never lighter, An unassuming little lark, so hard for us to sight her. The first time that I saw you, the burnished summer sky Was beautiful - and never since seemed brighter.
With snowdrifts lying glittering and cold, I hear the lark’s sweet cadence, feel summer breezes play And hear the ocean’s rushing waves unfold. I seem to feel the greening shoots in darkness being created, With cornflower and with clover leaves, by lovers venerated, Your features brightly painted by ev’ry sunbeam’s ray, They blush and glow and hold me captivated.
