German text Ein alter mann thet bulen gahn/  zu einer stoltzen jungen maid/ er reicht ir dar/ vil gulden klar/ von ir hat er ein kurtzen bscheid/ du bist ein alter kalter greiß/ dein haubt ist kahl/ das haar ist weiß/ auffs hew magstu nit steigen/ ich weiß ein stoltzen jungen mann/ der mich zu nachts erfrewen kan/ und spielt mir auff der geigen.

English translation An old man went courting/ a proud young maiden/ he showd her / much bright gold/ but got a short answer/ you are an old cold coot/ your head is bald your hair is white / You may not get it to rise / I know a proud young man / who can entertain me all night and play me on the fiddle.
