The spelling "plain" in "plain d'ennuy", that all these editions use, following the 1560 source, is clearly a misspelling, as the 1570 source as well as the settings of the same text by [[Mon coeur se recommande (Jean de Castro)|Jean de Castro]] and [[Mon cœur se recommande à vous (Rinaldo del Mel)|Rinaldo del Mel]] have "plein" (= full), deriving from Latin "plenus", whereas "plain" (= flat) derives from "planus"; and "plain" makes no sense.
