Pour un plaisir qui si peu dure,
j'ai enduré peine et travaux.
J'en ai souffert douleur trop dure.
J'en reçus cent mille mots,
j'en ai eu de trop grands assaults.
Or, Dieu me doit bonne aventure:
Fortune a fait sur moi ses saulx.

English translation

For pleasure that was all too brief,
Have I sustained travails and woes,
Have I full suffered every grief,
Have I received a thousand blows,
Have I hurt more than any knows,
Now God doth owe me some relief,
Ill fortune’s had me in its throes.
