Addio, mio dolce Aminta.
Bella mia Silvia, addio,
disse sovra un bel rio
pastor afflitto, afflitta pastorella,
ei sospirando ed ella.
E'l dividersi solo
era cagion del duolo,
ché partendo ambo ne' più freschi albori,
si diviser da lor gli accesi cori.

Farewell, my sweet Aminta.
My lovely Sylvia, farewell,
he said by a lovely stream
A shepherd, grief-stricken, a grief-struck shepherdess,
he sighing, and she as well.
And their separation alone
was the cause of their sorrow,
because both in parting amidst the springtime trees,
their passionate hearts were divided asunder.
