Italian.png Italian text

Amarillide mia, dirò «mio sole»?
No, ch'i miei giorni oscuri
più serenar, più rallegrar non curi;
dirò «mio cor, mia vita»? ahi ché non vuole
né può dolci parole
formar lingua dolente.
Dirò veracemente:
«foco dell'alma mia che m'ardi e fugge
risplend'agli occhi almen se 'l cor distrugge.»

English.png English translation

My Amaryllis, shall I say 'my sun'?
No, for my dark days
you care no more to brighten [or] to cheer;
shall I say 'my heart, my life'? Ah, since my sorrowful tongue
does not wish to nor can form sweet words,
I will say truly:
'Flame of my soul, who sets me aflame, and flees,
at least dazzle upon my eyes, if you destroy my heart.'
