Biography

Arthur Pearson was born in Stanningley, near Leeds, England, son of Henry Pearson (1824–1899), organist of Slaithwaite. He trained at Queen’s College, Oxford, and became organist at St. Paul’s Church, Huddersfield, for over 50 years, and Borough Organist for 44 years. He was a founder and twice President of Huddersfield Organists’ Association, at times was conductor of the Huddersfield Philharmonic Society, the Holmfirth Choral Society, and the Skipton Choral Society. He was active as a teacher and was editor of the Yorkshire Musician. He retired in 1934 due to ill-health. He had three brothers and a sister who were organists.
