Splitting

It might be useful to subdivide: I've split off Votive antiphons and Magnificat antiphons (the later not indexed separately in Solesmes books but interesting in that they are proper to the week). I wonder:

  • would "Processional antiphons" cover everything at Mass (we're talking about Hosanna filio, Vidi aqua and such) ? The foot washing antiphons of Maundy Thursday cause me to hesitate…
  • would "Psalm antiphons" be a less ambiguous term for what the LU index lumps with all antiphons? (Jkelecom suggests something like "Office antiphons", which might be better)

Hi Richard, I can only vouch for Roman use, but there is no such thing as a "processional antiphon", since that is para-liturgical. Solesmes has a Processionale Monasticum, but that mostly consists of Hymns. The term "psalm antiphons" doesn't really mean anything, since the Graduale Romanum labels Introits, Communions and Office Antiphons all as "antiphons". As far as Roman use is concerned, I'd either follow the calendar or go for "mass" or "office". Jkelecom (talk) 17:05, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
