In a fairy glade,
Where no foot hath strayed,
But the foot of elf, or fay.
One on a rose-tree,
One on a thorn,
Two lover Spiders lay!

From that fairy glen,
Rude hands of men
No flower had stolen away;
But all alone,
On the rose and thorn,
Those lover spiders lay.

We woo apart:
O weave, true heart
Thy love-web, year by year.
And some fine day
We shall meet half way;
And kiss on a cobweb, dear.

And they lay and wove
Their webs of love,
Till they met one far off day!
And she passed with him
To his rose bower dim,
And her thorn-tree left for aye!

And the sun shone bright
On the love-web light,
Till it passed, like dew one morn.
But what care they?
They have met for aye,
And the rose has lost its thorn.

We woo apart:
O weave, dear heart
Thy love-web day by day.
And the cares of life,
When we meet true wife,
Like cobwebs will melt away.
