Description: The phrase 'Ma al rio beveste l'acqua' encodes the name of Count Mario Bevilacqua (1536-1593) of Verona, dedicatee of Casulana's primo libro de madrigali a 5 voci. Bevilacqua was strongly associated with the Accademia Filarmonica of Verona and was the patron of many late cinquecento musicians.

Italian text Come fiammeggia e splende or quindi or quinci il sole così di voi signore, luce l'alto valore che pregio acquista a vostra nobil prole, né perché siate tale vien da opra mortale, MA al RIO BEVEste l'ACQUA che v'infuse l'alma virtù de le divine Muse.

English translation As the sun blazes and shines now on this side, now on that, so too shines the great valor of your of your lordship, gathering glory to your noble lineage, not merely does it come by mortal deed, but you drank the water at the spring that infuses your soul with the divine Muses's virtue.
