Latin text Descendit angelus Domini ad Zachariam dicens accipe puerum in senectute tua: et habebit nomen Ioannes Baptista. Ne timeas Zacharia/quoniam1 exaudita est oratio tua, et Elisabeth uxor tua pariet tibi filium: et habebit nomen Ioannes Baptista. Variants 1. Victoria has "Ne timeas quoniam exaudita est"; Wismes has "Ne timeas Zacharia exaudita est".

English translation The angel of the Lord appeared to Zacharias, saying: accept a boy in your old age: and he will have the name John the Baptist. Do not fear [Zacharias], [for] your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son: and he will have the name John the Baptist.
