Henry Gough Trembath

Life

Biography

English composer and organist. Trembath played the or­gan at St. John’s, Tru­ro, Corn­wall (1862–69), and gra­du­at­ed from New Col­lege, Ox­ford, in 1869. While at Ox­ford, he was friends with Fred­er­ick Gore-Ous­e­ley and John Stain­er. He al­so stu­died at the Roy­al Aca­de­my of Mu­sic un­der Stern­dale Ben­nett and Mac­far­ren. He then served as or­gan­ist at St. Ma­ry’s, Tru­ro (1869–74), and be­came a Fel­low of the Roy­al Col­lege of Or­gan­ists (Ho­nor­ia Cau­sa) in 1875. He went on to be­come or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter at St. John’s Church, Isle­worth, Mid­dle­sex (1874–1907). He is famous for the hymn tunes Buddington, Good Christian People All, and Rosmore.
