General Information

Title: Missa Expurgate
Composer: Pierre Colin
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SATTB
Genre: SacredMass

Language: Latin
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1556
Description: Transcribed from Liturgicon musicarum duodecim missarum, containing 12 masses by Pierre Colin, published by Jacques Moderne in 1556. This is most likely a parody mass, based on a motet Expurgate vetus fermentum. There are several motets with that title on Polyphonydatabase.com, but as far as I could tell, none has the opening motif used at the beginning of most mass movements. So the model is as yet unidentified.
