The winds on the mountains so cheerily blow,
Our waters with fishes of gold overflow;
The song of our birds is so sweet and so clear,
The brooklets come rushing from far and from near;
This gladdens our hearts, and we merrily sing,
And make with our voices the loud echoes ring.
No pillow is softer, when slumber we woo,
Than a conscience that’s light and a heart that is true;
Our faith, and our trust, and our honest goodwill,
’Tis they are our treasure, which no one can steal.
We labor from sunrise till evening appears,
And leave to the Lord all our cares and out fears.
And when the sun pales, and the day’s toil is done,
And eve with its cool and its shadows comes on,
With plumage of gold, and with glittering breast,
Then softly we sing as we go to our rest;
And bending in reverence, we silently pray:
“We thank thee, O Lord, for thy mercies today!”
