English text
If tears into each life must fall,
Oh! that our tears may be
As summer rain that gently drops
On field, and flower, and tree;
Helping the tender bud to ope,
Freshening the drooping flower,
Filling the ears with precious grain
Before the harvest hour.
So may our tears their work fulfill,
And in these hearts of ours
The tardy buds of grace unfold,
Revive its drooping flowers.
And when the angels come, at last,
To reap the ripened field,
May each life, as the watered ground,
A fruitful harvest yield.
