English text
Tell me, Flora, tell me truly,
Why this heart no more is free,
Why my thoughts are so unruly,
Why they only turn to thee?
If a studious mood comes o’er me,
And to reading I incline,
Tell me why I see before me
Flora’s name in every line?
Tell me, when soft zephyrs playing,
Sportive thro’ the leafy dell,
Why they sound like voices saying,
Flora scarce on earth should dwell?
Why, when o’er the waters stealing,
Village bells’ sweet measures come,
This the burden of their pealing,
Flora, hasten to thine home.
