The sun is up, come let us go,
We are the merry reapers,
Leave sloth to those who’ve cares and woes,
We are no drowsy sleepers.

At dawn we rise, and morning skies,
Have not a tint more mellow
Than is the rose each cheek that shows
In the corn fields yellow.

We love to hear the sickle gaily playing,
And the horn from distance borne with echoes replying.
Oh, then ’tis sweet to meet those on us depending.
