English text
The hum of busy toil is hushed,
And quiet stillness reigns supreme;
The god of day, with glory flushed,
Has left the world to peaceful dream.
The birds, and fowl, the loving kine
Are seeking soothing balm of sleep,
And twinkling stars begin to shine,
While weary hearts their vigils keep.
O holy time when glare of day
Gives place to Twilights sacred hour,
When Luna’s scintillating ray
Falls o’er the sea in silvery shower.
O holy Twilight, hail to thee,
We wait the coming of thine hour;
From care and turmoil ever free,
So full of gentle soothing power.
We ever gladly welcome thee,
Fair Twilight hour of rest and peace;
Glad to prolong thy stay we’d be,
O time of sorrows sweet surcease.
But fleeting as a shadow dim
Art thou, O Twilight blissful, rare,
As memory of a chord or hymn
That floated on the summer air.
