Latin text Ubi est Abel frater tuus? Dixit Dominus ad Cain. Nescio Domine: nunquid, custos fratris mei sum ego? Et dixit Dominus ad eum: quid fecisti? Ecce vox sanguinis fratris tui Abel clamat ad me de terra: Maledicta terra in opere tuo quae aperuit os suum et suscepit sanguinem fratris tui de manu tua.

English translation Then the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? Who answered, I cannot tell. Am I my brother's keeper? Again he said, What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me, from the earth: Now therefore thou art cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thine hand.
