Description: Source: Ioannis Contini ... modulationum cum 6 vocum, liber primus, Scotto, Venice, 1560. Whether it was an editor/publisher or the composer himself who decided that this should appear as the first work in a volume devoted entirely to works by Contino, they clearly recognised it as a true gem. Some notable features: cantus firmus comprising the Ave Maria chant in a tenor voice; much use made of the 'ut sol' pun - the rising fifth on the words 'like the sun', which features in many Renaissance motets.
