Biography

Wilfred Ellington Bendall was born in London. He studied with Charles Lucas, Edouard Silas, and at the Leipzig Conservatory. He was secretary to Sir Arthur Sullivan and taught at the Guildhall School. He arranged the piano part for some of Sullivan’s later published vocal scores. Like Sullivan, he worked in the lighter musical theatre, writing a number of operettas and theatre works. His works also include part songs, music for female voices, a cantata, a “ballad,” and a suite of song dances.
