Biography

William Alfred White was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was educated at Columbia University and the New England Conservatory. He became a successful and respected music educator with numerous positions including music teacher at Raleigh, NC, director of music at Northwestern University, professor of music at Syracuse University, and director of music at Western Kentucky State Normal School. He also served as director of music in the Public Schools of Des Moines, IA, and director of music in the public schools of Denver, Colorado. He died in Denver. He authored several music education books. He composed a number of pieces and edited and arranged pieces for use by school choirs.
