Biography
William Henry Montgomery was born at St. George the Martyr, Southwark, London, England. He directed music at Sadler’s Wells theatre, at Covent Gardens, and the Strand theatre. He was a long-time member of the Royal Society of Musicians. He wrote “The Royal Standard Tutor for the Harmonium,” edited an edition of “Moores Irish Melodies,” and was musical editor of the “Young Ladies’ Journal.” His compositions include music for a long series of pantomimes for various London theatres, a significant number of teaching pieces for the piano, and a large number of dances and songs. He died in Lambeth, London, England.
