Biography

Wilson George Smith was born in Elyria, Ohio. For health reasons, he started working in the mercantile business, but soon went to the University of Cincinnati to study music. He was persuaded to study in Europe travelled to Berlin to study piano, theory, and composition. He returned to Ohio, settling in Cleveland, and opened a studio teaching organ, piano, voice, and composition. He authored many musical texts and was a music critic with the Cleveland Press. He wrote over 1,000 compositions, including piano solos and suites, songs and technical studies for the piano, dances, and waltzes. He died in Cleveland.
