Life

Born: 4 July 1715

Died: 13 December 1769

Biography Gellert taught philosophy at Leipzig, while writing novels and comedies as well as verse. C. P. E. Bach, Joseph Haydn and Beethoven set substantial parts of his Odes and Hymns, while Tchaikovsky's Kukushka is drawn from an imitation of Aesop.
