I've created [[:Category:Laments]]. Should this category be included in the Genre section, and/or in the Description section, or at the bottom? For the pieces above, I've included it in the Genre section for the pieces linked above. -- [[User:Vaarky|Vaarky]] 08:32, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

I've no problem with Laments (or Elegies or Epitaphia).  I'm not so sure about including {{CiteCat|Lamentations of Jeremiah}} as a subcategory ... wouldn't including {{CiteCat|Passions}} or {{CiteCat|Requiems}} be next?  To me it seems better to keep the new category for secular laments (or elegies).  This way, the new category becomes an appropriate genre subcategory of {{CiteCat|Secular music}}.  Sorry I haven't chimed in before, but thanks for creating a useful category!

I think limiting it to secular laments makes sense, otherwise the category would be so large as to include about half the music on CPDL. I've seen people put together concert programs based on themes such as the musical laments for composers and a piece or two by that composer, so it might be useful in that way too.

(I wonder if a secular celebration category might be useful down the line too, for music written to celebrate weddings, birthdays, coronations etc.)

create category for epitaphium or elegies or laments?

I've created Category:Laments. Should this category be included in the Genre section, and/or in the Description section, or at the bottom? For the pieces above, I've included it in the Genre section for the pieces linked above. -- Vaarky 08:32, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

To me it seems better to keep the new category for secular laments (or elegies). This way, the new category becomes an appropriate genre subcategory of Secular music.
