From the wave-crest to valley of foam;
She’s rowing to meet the returning Eleet,
And welcome her father home.
There’s none so charming, all hearts disarming,
No one so sweet and true,
As the dark little colleen across the Claddagh,
The girl with the cappeen blue!

While leaves are Eluttering, deep seas muttering,
Sullen of tone and hue,
On brown tresses clung her cap is swung,
Like hairbells poised in the dew!
And when she’s rowing, free and unknowing,
Hearts must go with her too!
The green seas are leaping the bows and weeping
Herself and the cappeen blue!

Then come, O come with me! I’ve a home for thee!
Safe as a seabird’s nest!
The wild winds are crying, the days are dying,
Oh, come from the sea’s unrest!
