French text Cathin en mal denfant cryoit Secourez moy ou je suis morte Son poure mary fort cryoyt Qui vint pour entrer dens la porte Dist elle le diable temporte Saige femme couppez son cas Pour luy coupper le mettent bas Mais Cathin si en eust remord Et leurs dist ne luy couppez pas Car je luy pardonne ma mort.

French text  modernised Cathin en mal d'enfant criait: "Secourez-moi ou je suis morte". Son pauvre mari son criait Qui vint pour entrer dans la porte. Dit-elle: "Le diable t'emporte!". Sage-femme, coupez son cas Pour lui couper le mettant bas". Mais Cathin si en eut remords Et lors dit: "Ne lui coupez pas, Car je lui pardonne ma mort".

English translation So in childbirth Cathin screams: "Help me or I'm a goner". Her poor hubby, who's run To enter by the door, wails loudly. Says she: "The devil take you! Thump him, midwife, to contain him, While I'm giving birth". But Cathin is then most remorseful And so she says "Don't give him a slap, For I absolve him of my death".
