Biography

Charles Sherwood Jekyll was born in Westminster, England. He was a chorister at Westminster Abbey and trained under Sir George Alexander Macfarren. He held positions as organist at St. Paul’s temporary church in Kensington; assistant organist at Westminster Abbey; organist at Acton Parish Church and St. George’s (Hanover Square); organist and composer to the Chapels Royal, St. James’ Palace and Whitehall. He received Queen Victoria’s Jubilee Medal. His compositions include a number of Morning and Evening Services, organ music, songs, and part-songs. He died in Camberwell, London, England.
