German text Ach, wenn's nur der König auch wüßt', Wie wacker mein Schätzlein ist! Für den König, da ließ er sein Blut, Für mich aber ebensogut. Mein Schatz hat kein Band und kein Stern, Kein Kreuz wie die vornehmen Herrn, Mein Schatz wird auch kein General; Hätt' er nur seinen Abschied einmal! Es scheinen drei Sterne so hell Dort über Marienkapell; Da knüpft uns ein rosenrot Band, Und ein Hauskreuz ist auch bei der Hand.

English translation Oh, oh, if the king only knew how brave is my sweetheart and true! For the king he would lay down his life, and just as soon, too, for his wife. My love has no ribbons, no star, no cross like the all-powerful czar, no general will he become; I just wish his discharge would come. Three beautiful stars shone so bright high o’er the chapel at night; there we tied the rosy-red knot, and commenced then to argue a lot.
