Composer: Maggie Furtak

Number of voices: 6vv   Voicing: SSAATB

Language: English
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 2013
Description: The first section of this piece could be sung by a soloist, a small group of women, or all women. The "I will not be afraid" section is the only really difficult section in this piece. I'd recommend practicing the two measures with the cluster chords at half tempo, adding in each part one at a time to be sure your singers have their notes, and then gradually increasing speed. Each line makes intuitive musical sense on its own. It's only when you put them together that they become difficult. If necessary, that whole section can be taken a little slower, and then come back up to tempo for the end of the piece. I love feedback! If you try this with your group, please let me know, and let me know what you liked, and what was needlessly obtuse, or unclearly marked. pateceramics@yahoo.com
