German text Jetzt sprosst herfür aus Davids Stämmelein, Jesu, das liebe Jesse Zweigelein. Es wird geborn zu Bethlehem, im finstern Stall, beim Ochsen und beim Eselein. Wie mag ich nur im Herzen traurig sein, freuen sich doch die lieben Engelein. Dass sich die heilge Majestät aus Gottes Thron in unser Fleisch heraber lässt. Drum dank ich dir, mein liebes Jesulein, dass du bist wordn mein liebes Brüderlein. Gib meinem Herzen Freud und Trost, denn durch dein Blut aus aller Not sind wir erlost.

English translation Please feel free to correct my English, I only added a translation myself because there are some unusual words or spellings. From David's stem now sprouts Jesus, the dear twig of Jesse. It is born in Bethlehem, in a dark stable, near the ox and the donkey. How can I be sad within my heart, while the dear angels rejoice, that the holy majesty condescends from God's throne into our flesh.
