Text and translations

Latin.png Latin text

Laudate Dominum, quia benignus est:
psallite nomini ejus, quoniam suavis/suave1 est:
omnia quaecumque voluit,
fecit in coelo et in terra.

English.png English translation

Praise ye the Lord, for He is good:
sing ye to His Name, for He is sweet:
whatsoever He pleased,
He hath done in heaven and in earth.

German.png German translation

Lobet den Herren, denn er ist freundlich,
lobsingt seinem Namen, denn er ist lieblich.
Was immer er will
tut er im Himmel wie auf Erden.

1; The common use seems to be to employ the male form "suavis", thus relating the adjective to "dominus", grammatically; but there is also the variant "suave", linking it to "nomen". The latter is consistent with Psalm 134 of the Vulgata, which the text is based on.
