Le nuove musiche (Giulio Caccini)

Description: One of the first publications of the new monodic style, in which Caccini claims to be the inventor of that style and also of figured bass notation, this book contains a lengthy introdution explaining it. It contains both solo madrigals and arias, as well as selections from his opera Il Rapimento di Cefalo. The dedication is dated 1 February 1601, i.e. according to the Florentine reckoning of New Year's from the Annunciation, 25 March.
It was reprinted in 1607 by Alessandro Raverii and in 1615 by Giacomo Vincenti. In 1608, Vincenti also published an abbreviated edition, containing only the arias, in response to public demand.
