English text Silent lay the sapphire ocean, Till a tempest came to wake All its roaring, seething billows That upon earth's ramparts break. Quiet was my heart within me, Till your image, suddenly Rising there, awoke a tumult Wilder than the storm at sea. inspired by a Russian poem written by Apollon N. Majkov (1821-1897)

German translation Die saphirne See lag schweigend, bis ein Sturm mit wilder Hand Gischten türmte, die mit Brüllen bersten an der Klippen Wand.
