English.png English translation

1. Mary was going to Bethlehem
on Christmas Eve in the morning;
St Joseph was with her,
keeping her company.

2. It hailed and snowed: the weather was foul;
there was frost on the roofs;
St Joseph said to Mary:
‘Mary, what shall we do?’

3. Mary said: ‘I am so tired,
let us rest for a while.’
- ‘Let us go a little further,
then we can rest in some kind of shelter.’

4. The little child wept on Mary's lap:
come, angels from above:
come, crown this virgin, it is high time
for she has received the Lord there.
