Description:  The dedication is to Francesco I de' Medici (1541-1587) and the subject is his mistress and later wife, the famous Bianca Cappello (1548-1587). Sabino's terzo libro is dedicated to Francesco, and no less than 4 pieces of the collection are expressly dedicated to him as well. Perhaps since I dialoghi was published after their deaths, the text was updated to no longer be so topical.

Italian text Mentr’io veggio apparir la lucida alba, Coronata di stelle, innanzi al sole, Dov’ell’albergar suole, Lieto risguardo il cielo, C’havend’all’hor deposto il fosco velo Par che dica: colei che t’innamora Sembra la vaga e risplendent’Aurora.

German translation Während ich die lichte Morgendämmerung erscheinen sehe, gekrönt mit Sternen, vor der Sonne, bei der sie zu wohnen pflegt², betrachte ich fröhlich den Himmel, der nun den dunklen Schleier abgelegt hat und zu sagen scheint: die, die dich verliebt macht, gleicht der schönen und glänzenden Morgenröte. ² ? „ella“ kann sich nur auf die Dämmerung beziehen, da die Sonne männlich ist Translation by Gerhard Weydt

English translation As I am watching bright dawn appear, crowned with stars, ahead of the sun, where it uses to dwell³, I gladly behold the sky, which has now taken off the dark veil and seems to say: the one that has enamoured you resembles the beautiful and splendid Aurora. ³ ? “ella” can only apply to dawn, because the sun is male.
