Description:  This piece appeared first in 1565 in the collection Le vive fiamme de' vaghi e dilettevoli madrigali del Cipriano di Rore, attributed to Cipriano. That is a posthumous collection of pieces by Cipriano, edited from manuscripts entrusted to Giulio Bonagiunta. Since Ingegneri was de Rore's student, it is likely this composition was among the master's papers and assumed to be by him. It first appeared attributed to Ingegneri in the early 1570s, in a single-author collection by Ingegneri, with a personal dedication by Ingegneri.

Non mi togl'il ben mio,
chi non arde d'amor,
come fac' io, come fac' io,
ma perché non fia mai che null'o
poco agguagl'il mio gran foco,
se non è in giust'amore,
io son hauro della mia donn'il core,
d’un che lass' il ben mio,
chi non arde d'amor,
come fac' io.
