Description: The motet Qui confidunt in Domino is one of Harant's two completely preserved motets. It is a setting of Psalm 125 (124), which was published as part of Harant's travelogue in 1608. The motet is freely composed without a cantus firmus. Harant describes the creation of his work as follows: "When we were resting in Jerusalem after our journey and visits to holy places in the monastery, we often spent the evenings with the monks, some of whom were good musicians and cantors, singing all kinds of beautiful motets and pieces for four and five voices. This inspired me to compose a motet based on the text of Psalm 124, which was particularly close to my heart at the time. [...] As proof of my contemplation at that time and in gratitude to God, I added this six-part motet, composed and sung there in the monastery in the city of Jerusalem, albeit ordinary, at the end of this first book of my travels." The motet was therefore most likely composed in 1598 in Jerusalem, in the monastery of St. Salvator.
