Is this song correctly assigned as 'anonymous'? Does anyone know if there was a traditional Zulu song with this same melody and text before the arrangement (composition?) by Andries van Tonder? Thanks. -- CarlosTalk 02:15, 6 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi Carlos, research reveals many different answers as to the traditional nature of Siyahamba. I like the explanation here
http://www.alfred.com/Products/Siyahamba--00-26643.aspx
but maybe Alfred Music Publishing can provide more info if required.
(PS I removed the link to my recording of Siyahamba because the toptempo site seems to have disappeared)
(PPS I couldn't find a way to add this comment on the Siyahamba discussion page itself, so I put it here - hope that's OK?)
Kind regards

Hi David, I've been trying to find an authoritative answer to the origin/authorship of this music, but without success. If it was indeed composed by Van Tonder in 1950, it would still be under copyright, so I guess some people may prefer to believe that it's "traditional", and consequently in the PD. —Carlos Email.gif 16:49, 26 February 2012 (CST)
Hi everybody. photos of the original hand written composition can be seen at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150217201127503.313911.680792502&type=3&l=0ef86ace0f
This show the date it was first performed as 27 January 1952. The document was found in a Bible belonging to Andries' son. Joevantonder 19:21, 27 February 2012 (CST)
